Last week, Kansas City Southern named Steve Evans assistant vice president of sales and marketing for transload to succeed Rich Weigel, who plans to retire at the end of January 2011.

Evans has served Kansas City Southern Railway Co.’s (KCSR) carload business unit the past nine years focusing on industrial products, such as paper, metals, appliances, lumber and military equipment. His 25-year transportation industry career also includes stints with United Parcel Service and Ryder Transportation.

A 40-year transportation industry veteran, Weigel joined KCSR in 2000 to develop the TransLoad Center network, which partners the railroad with select logistics, trucking and warehousing firms to provide single-bill, door-to-door service. He will assist in Evans’ transition and serve as a “loaned executive” to the Greater Chicago area United Way, according to KCS.

“Rich has provided outstanding leadership in the development of KCS’ international transload network and we wish him the very best in his retirement,” said KCS Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Patrick Ottensmeyer in a prepared statement.

KCS also named Susan McVaney AVP of sales and marketing for industrial products to succeed Evans. She joined KCSR in October 2009 as AVP of national accounts. McVaney has 21 years of transportation experience at Union Pacific Railroad, including eight years in the industrial products sector.
