In August, the Transportation Services Index (TSI) was tabulated at 100.7, down 0.4 percent vs. July’s level but up 1.1 percent vs. August 2009’s mark, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).

August’s Freight TSI of 97.6 fell 0.6 percent on a month-over-month basis, the first drop since May. On a year-over-year basis, the index rose 1.2 percent. However, the Freight TSI was at its lowest August level since 1997, BTS said.

August’s Passenger TSI of 111.5 inched up 0.2 percent from July’s level and 0.8 percent from August 2009’s mark.
