• Electro-Motive Diesel Inc. (EMD) recently signed a contract with Mauritania's Societe Nationale Industrielle et Miniere S.A. (SNIM) to manufacture six SD70ACS heavy-haul AC diesel-electric locomotives. The SD70ACS is a 4,500-BHP AC unit that includes an EMD IGBT AC drive system, a pulse filtration system, and movable sand plows on the pilot and trucks. Designed for SNIM's mining operation, the units are scheduled to be delivered in fourth-quarter 2011.

• RailComm was awarded a contract to provide the GCOR dispatch system for Genesee & Wyoming Inc.'s (GWI) eight Rail Link Region railroads. RailComm's Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) train-control system will be accessed via a web-enabled software-as-a-service delivery model, enabling the GWI railroads to be remotely dispatched "anywhere an internet connection is available," according to a RailComm statement.
