Since spring, dwell times for European import vehicles handled by CN's Autoport Terminal in Halifax, Nova Scotia, have dropped about 25 percent because of “new supply-chain efficiencies,” according to the Class I.

The Autoport facility receives vehicles from ocean-going vessels and transfers them onto rail cars for distribution across Canada. CN handles imported vehicles through the ports of Halifax and Vancouver, British Columbia, and offers various CN Autoport services through 15 Canadian and U.S. processing facilities.

CN Autoport reviewed supply-chain processes to reduce port dwell times and adopted a new transit time approach from ship discharge to dealer delivery via 10 major automotive facilities in Canada to help “get our customers’ vehicles to market more quickly,” said Jean-Jacques Ruest, CN executive vice president and chief marketing officer, in a prepared statement.
