North Carolina Railroad, Operation Lifesaver launch billboard campaign

The North Carolina Railroad Co. (NCRR) and North Carolina Operation Lifesaver are launching a new statewide public safety campaign with help from the NC Outdoor Advertising Association.

The billboard campaign will focus on NCRR’s 317-mile corridor between Morehead City and Charlotte, and promote several safety messages, such as: “Don't walk along railroad tracks,” “Put down that phone and stop texting at train crossings” and “Always expect a train.”

Last year, 55 train/vehicle accidents and 29 trespassing incidents occurred in North Carolina. In addition, there were 23 rail-related fatalities and 45 injuries.

“We launched this campaign because there are a few simple safety tips to remember that could save lives, prevent injury and reduce property damage,” said NCRR President Scott Saylor in a prepared statement.
