The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) Rail Division recently completed improvements at a Norfolk Southern Railway crossing in Kinston.

The $217,423 project involved revisions to crossing signals and the installation of gates. NCDOT provided 55.7 percent of project funds, with North Carolina Railroad Co. providing 24.3 percent and NS, 20 percent. The Class I and city of Kinston will cover maintenance costs.

Meanwhile, the NCDOT’s Rail Division plans to christen two refurbished locomotives for North Carolina's Amtrak tomorrow at the J. Douglas Galyon train depot in Greensboro. The project was funded by federal stimulus dollars.

The motive power will be used on North Carolina Amtrak’s Piedmont route between Raleigh and Charlotte.
