• Yesterday, GE Transportation announced it shipped five more PowerHaul locomotives to Freightliner Group Ltd. in the United Kingdom. Manufactured at GE’s Erie, Pa., plant, the locomotives will join the first batch of seven units Freightliner placed in revenue service in late 2009.  The locomotives are part of a 30-unit order Freightliner placed in 2007, its largest-ever motive power purchase. The PowerHaul Series represents GE’s first entry into the U.K. and European marketplace.

• The Kansas City Southern Railway Co. has selected RMI’s Railway Daily Operations Control Systems (RailDOCS) to manage monthly Federal Railroad Administration compliance and preventive maintenance requirements for signal and communication assets.
An integrated suite of business systems, RailDOCS is designed to track and manage all design, operation and maintenance data for signal and communication equipment. RailDOCS can replace traditional project management tools — including spreadsheets, phone calls and emails — with a single, integrated web-based application, according to RMI. The system also enables maintainers in the field to complete and record all inspection, maintenance and compliance requirements.

• Siemens Mobility obtained a $235 million order from Norwegian rolling stock leasing firm Oslo Vognselskap AS to supply 32 three-car trainsets. Siemens plans to begin delivering the trains from a Vienna plant in 2012. Oslo Vognselskap exercised an option in a 2003 contract, under which Siemens so far has delivered 83 three-car trainsets for rapid transit service in Oslo. As part of a consortium with Thales, Siemens also won a contract from the Santo Domingo government transport authority to provide electrification and rail automation equipment for a new metro line. The pact calls for Siemens to provide maintenance services for three years.

• Bombardier Transportation signed a seven-year, $101 million contract with the city and county of Denver, and Department of Aviation to operate and maintain a BOMBARDIER INNOVIA APM 100 automated people mover system at Denver International Airport from 2011 to 2017. The INNOVIA APM 100 system has been operating since the airport opened in 1995.

• Automotive Resources International (ARI®) announced it acquired the assets of Auto Truck Group, a work truck industry upfitter. ARI plans to merge its railroad truck upfitting subsidiary, Fleet Body Equipment, into ATG, which will become ARI subsidiary Auto Truck Group L.L.C.  ATG President Jim Dondlinger and his management team will continue to lead all ATG operations, including Auto Truck Inc., Fort Wayne Fleet Equipment Co., Layton Truck Equipment Co., Louisville Truck Equipment and Fleet Body Equipment.
