The Fort Worth & Western Railroad (FWWR) recently appointed Thomas Schlosser president and chief executive officer to succeed Steven George, who plans to retire in first-quarter 2011 after serving in the top post since 2007.

Schlosser most recently was CEO of Global Rail Systems Inc., a Vossloh-Cogifer subsidiary that supplies railway signaling, train control and detection equipment. He previously served RailAmerica Inc. as senior vice president of the pacific corridor, then western corridor. Prior to that, Schlosser was president and chief operating officer of Park Sierra Rail Group, and vice president and COO of the California Northern Railroad. He began his railroad career in 1971 as a locomotive fireman at the Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railroad following service in the U.S. Navy.

George, who joined the 276-mile FWWR in 2000 as VP of operations planning and support, plans to work closely with Schlosser until the transition is completed. George began his railroad career in 1971 with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, where he held various operating department posts, including assistant VP of operations.
