Yesterday, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) announced it approved construction authorization from the Ohio Rail Development Commission directing Norfolk Southern Railway to upgrade flashing lights and roadway gates at two grade crossings in Olmsted Falls.

NS must submit site plans and cost estimates to PUCO by April 12 and complete work by Jan. 12, 2012. Funding for the projects will be covered by federal dollars.

PUCO, which is responsible for evaluating crossing safety in Ohio, last year helped prompt the installation of lights and gates at 72 crossings statewide, according to the commission.
