The first phase, totaling nearly $68 million, includes 19 Citadis trainsets for the T7 line; the second, to be exercised at a later date, will include 20 additional trainsets for the T8 line. In a separate agreement, Australian operator RailCorp has awarded Alstom several contracts worth $65 million for its new rail signaling system as part of a major upgrade to improve safety across Sydney's CityRail network. Alstom will provide an automatic train protection system based on Level 1 of a European Train Control System.

• L.B. Foster Co. has obtained a contract with Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Railway to provide 1,000 tons of 115-pound standard rail for the upgrade of aging track, and for the construction of a new 10,000-foot siding for a unit train interchange. An L.B. Foster weld train is expected to deliver 54,450 linear feet of continuous welded rail next month for track rehabilitation as required for the upkeep of 60 miles of mainline rail and 40 miles of yard track. Steel Dynamics Inc., L.B. Foster’s strategic partner, manufactured the rail.

• Environmental Packaging Technologies Ltd. (EPT) has acquired Global Flexi Systems, the fifth-largest flexitank company in the world, EPT President Nancy Wendrock said in a prepared statement. Both companies are based in Houston. The acquisition will provide EPS, which markets the Big Red Flexitank brand, access to new markets and an expanded customer base "for an even greater global presence," Wendrock said. EPT is the first bottom-load flexitank manufacturer to pass the Association of American Railroads’ rail impact and simulation tests, EPT officials said.

• Fort Worth & Western Railroad has extended its contract with RailComm for its computerized track warrant control system. RailComm's Domain Operations Control (DOC®) dark territory train control systems is accessed through a web-enabled, software as-a-service delivery model.

• CargoWise® has completed an ediEnterprise software solution implementation with BNSF Logistics L.L.C. The third-party logistics provider chose CargoWise to provide a comprehensive, single platform ERP accounting, logistics and customs brokerage solution to meet current requirements, as well as added flexibility for growth, according to CargoWise.
