Last week, Ohio Gov. John Kasich announced that state Rep. Todd Snitchler had been named chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), subject to the Ohio Senate’s consent.  Snitchler’s term will include the three remaining years of former Chairman Alan Schriber’s term. Schriber, who led PUCO for about 12 years, retired on Dec. 31.

Snitchler will vacate his seat in the Ohio House of Representatives, where he served as ranking member and chairman of the Public Utilities Committee. He is an attorney at Snitchler Law Firm L.L.C. and has been practicing law since 2003.

PUCO is responsible for evaluating the safety of Ohio’s public grade crossings to determine the need for installing active warning devices. Last year, the commission played a role in the installation of lights and gates at 72 crossings statewide.
