Bombardier to supply 60 TRAXX freight locomotives to Europe's Angel Trains

European rolling stock lessor Angel Trains recently placed a $316 million order with Bombardier Transportation for 60 TRAXX freight locomotives.

The mix of AC, DC and multi-system electric locomotives will be leased to railroads moving cross-border traffic on various European routes, including new corridors between Austria and Hungary, and Sweden and Norway.

Bombardier will complete final production of the AC and multi-system locomotives at its Kassel, Germany, plant; DC locomotives will be assembled in Vado Ligure, Italy. In addition, Bombardier will produce bodyshells in Wroclaw, Poland; bogies in Siegen, Germany; and propulsion and control systems — which will be based on the company’s MITRAC technology — in Mannheim, Germany.

Angel Trains currently manages a fleet of 100 TRAXX locomotives.
