CSX Corp. recently purchased 318 acres of land from the city of Winter Haven, Fla., for a new intermodal and automotive terminal.

CSX subsidiary Evansville Western Railway Inc. purchased the land for the terminal, which is part of CSX’s plan to build a large logistics center in Winter Haven.

The terminal also is one of a few key components in CSX's and the Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) plan to relocate freight-rail traffic away from a four-county area centered around Orlando to make way for new commuter-rail operations.

FDOT plans to launch commuter-rail service in 2009 on an initial segment running from DeBary to Amtrak's Orlando station.
