VeraSun Energy launches ethanol production at Nebraska plant

advertisement

Earlier this month, VeraSun Energy Corp. temporarily suspended construction of an ethanol plant in Reynolds, Ind., because of plummeting ethanol prices. But the company didn't postpone the opening of a Nebraska plant.

VeraSun recently launched production at a 110-million-gallon capacity facility near Albion, Neb. — the company's fifth ethanol plant. To be served by the Nebraska Central Railroad Co., the facility is one of three biorefineries VeraSun purchased from ASAlliances Biofuels L.L.C. in August.

Along with plants in Aurora, S.D., Linden, Ind., and Fort Dodge and Charles City, Iowa, the Albion facility will help VeraSun produce more than 500 million gallons of ethanol annually. The company also is building plants in Hartley, Iowa, Welcome, Minn., and Bloomingburg, Ohio.
