From around the rail supply industry:

• Miner Enterprises Inc. recently delivered 162 car sets of its AggreGate® ballast discharge outlets to FreightCar America Inc. to be applied to ballast cars FreightCar America is building for BNSF Railway Co. The cars also are equipped with other Miner products, including draft gears, constant-contact side bearings and brake beams.

• Bombardier Transportation won an order for 35 TRAXX freight locomotives from pan-European leasing company Angel Trains. Along with five TRAXX units Angel Trains previously ordered, the company will lease 40 of the electric locomotives to Belgian National Railways' B-Cargo freight operating unit. The railway has contracted Bombardier to maintain the 40 TRAXX locomotives for 10 years. The total value of the locomotive orders and maintenance contract is $260 million. Bombardier also obtained an $85 million order for 15 TRAXX freight locomotives from rolling stock lessor CBRail. The order calls for a combination of TRAXX AC and MS units to be used in cross-border traffic on different European routes.

• RailComm Inc. commissioned a Track Warrant Control (TWC) System for Ferrocarril del Sureste (Ferrosur). The Mexican railroad is using RailComm's Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) PC-based platform to dispatch over 860 miles from seven workstations. The primary dispatch center is located in Veracruz, Mexico, and a disaster recovery site is set up in a Mexico City location. The DOC®:TWC application features redundant server failover, Railroad Manager(tm), graphical playback and bilingual capabilities.

• The Railway Supply Institute Inc. (RSI) began accepting applications for its 2008-2009 college scholarship program. The association is offering scholarships to qualified students who are dependents (children, grandchildren, adopted children, etc.) of employees working for RSI member companies, or dependents of the four CMA associations supported by RSI. Application forms are available online at www.rsiweb.org. RSI also is soliciting contributions for the scholarship program from members.
