The latest doings in the rail supply world include developments overseas and several promotions or appointments:

• The Greenbrier Cos. promoted Lorie Lesson to vice president of corporate finance and assistant treasurer, and Anne Manning to vice president-corporate controller to succeed Linda Olinger, who is retiring. Lesson most recently served as assistant VP of corporate finance; Manning most recently was assistant controller. In addition, Greenbrier in January expects to name Mark Rittenbaum — currently senior VP and treasurer — executive VP, chief financial officer and treasurer to succeed CFO Larry Brady, who will retire Jan. 8.

• Southwest Signal Engineering Co. promoted Edward Alexander from controller to vice president of finance and administration, and appointed Tony Bonaro manager of human resources and quality assurance. Since joining the company in 1999, Bonaro had various quality control, safety and training responsibilities.

• Alstom Transport and Spanish national railway RENFE formed joint venture company IRVIA Mantenimiento Ferroviario, which will provide railway maintenance services. To be headquartered in Madrid, IRVIA will maintain and repair rolling stock, and electrical and electronic equipment. Initially the company will handle maintenance of Alstom Civia suburban trains and Alstom Alaris high-speed tilting trains that operate between Madrid and Valencia. RENFE and Alstom plan to expand maintenance services to other rolling stock.

• TÜVRheinland's Guided Transport Systems Division has added maintenance optimization to its list of railroad and transit market services. The company will analyze and try to optimize maintenance processes — including maintenance schedules, and operating procedures and processes — to improve workflows and identify cost savings. TÜVRheinland entered into a cooperative agreement with Die Ingenieurwerkstatt GmbH to help assess railroads' and transit agencies' maintenance programs.
