Pacific Ethanol Inc. recently announced plans to build a 50 million-gallon-capacity ethanol plant in Burley, Idaho.

To be completed in early 2008, the facility will be located along a Union Pacific Railroad line and near Interstate 84.

“The plant will serve local markets for both fuel and feed with significant production cost advantages over products imported from the Midwest,” said Pacific Ethanol Chief Executive Officer Neil Koehler in a prepared statement.

Pacific Ethanol also is building an ethanol plant in Boardman, Ore., that will be served by UP. The company currently operates a plant in Madera County, Calif., and retains a 42 percent interest in a Front Range Energy L.L.C. plant in Windsor, Colo., which is served by OmniTRAX Inc.’s Great Western Railway of Colorado L.L.C.
