BNSF Railway Co. recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the city of Victorville, Calif., to explore the development of an intermodal facility at Southern California Logistics Airport (SCLA).

The terminal would be part of a 3,500-acre “Southern California Rail Complex,” which would feature 20 million square feet of manufacturing and distribution space. SCLA would offer rail, ground and airfreight distribution services to reduce congestion at southern California ports and along highways.

“This MOU with BNSF is a major milestone in our effort to convert an abandoned Air Force base into a vital, thriving industry,” said Victorville Mayor Terry Caldwell in a prepared statement.
