Ansaldo Signal N.V. March 20 named Kenneth Burk president and chief executive officer of Union Switch & Signal Inc. (US&S). Most recently Railworks Corp.’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, Burk succeeds Roberto Gagliardi, who was promoted to chairman of Ansaldo Signal, US&S’s Netherlands-based parent.

Burk began his career in 1983 with Blount Inc., a company whose business segments include industrial power construction equipment. Six years later, he joined Tutor-Saliba Corp., a civil engineering and service firm specializing in public works projects, as vice president and chief financial officer. In 1994, Burk was named senior vice president and chief financial officer at Dick Corp. He joined Railworks in 1999.

"Our objective in searching for a new president and CEO for Union Switch was to find someone with a solid, top-level executive background in the rail industry or in one that closely parallels the rail industry," said Gagliardi in a prepared statement. "With Ken Burk we have a top-level executive who has rail industry experience and a background in the construction industry, which certainly is a major element of
the rail transit projects for which US&S provides signaling and control systems."
