LA-owned utility plans to sell Nevada short line

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) plans to sell the 128-mile Nevada Northern Railway, which runs between McGill and Cobre, Nev.
LADWP in 1987 bought the railroad as part of a plan to build the White Pine Power Plant along the line.
"The department has since abandoned those construction plans, so we are interested in selling the asset," says John Aguilar, LADWP coal transportation manager.
The railway, which currently has no authorized users, has 60- and 90-pound rail and an undetermined acreage of right-of-way.
LADWP now is accepting inquiries from interested purchasers to create a list of potential bidders for a mid-summer request for proposals.
"I hope to have an RFP draft ready for distribution by Aug. 1, and then distribute it to all interested parties at that time," says Aguilar.
Interested buyers can contact Aguilar by phone at 213-367-0424 or by email at john.aguilar@water.ladwp.com.
