Former Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers General Chairman Charles "Charlie" McDaniel Jr. died Sept. 14 in Amarillo, Texas. He was 75.

McDaniel served Santa Fe Railway Co. for nearly 46 years as a locomotive fireman/engineer before retiring in 1993. During his Santa Fe career, McDaniel served as president and local chairman for BLE Division 299, and general chairman of BLE's Santa Fe General Committee of Adjustment.

He held various other elected offices during his years of union service, was a "fixture" at annual southwestern convention meetings, and a well-known and highly respected BLE member, according to a prepared statement.

An avid coin collector, McDaniel belonged to Amarillo Numismatic Association, American Contract Bridge League and Amarillo Senior Citizens Association.

He outlived his first wife, Patricia Morris McDaniel, and son Sidney, and is survived by his second wife, Pat Wallace, two other sons, three daughters, 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
