Last month, 105 North American security managers attended the National Cargo Security Council's (NCSC) cargo security seminar in San Francisco — one the largest seminar crowds in NCSC's history, according to a prepared statement.

An enlarged version of the council's 2002 seminar on deterring in-transit theft of pharmaceuticals, the 2003 event included theft-prevention presentations on toiletries, fragrances and cosmetics, tobacco, clothing, high-tech equipment and other goods.

Security experts headed presentations entitled "Anatomy of a Theft," "Thefts of Specific Products," "The Role of Law Enforcement Agencies" and "Developing a Risk Matrix."

NCSC comprises about 1,000 professional cargo-security managers from the railroad, airline, trucking, marine and intermodal industries.
