To honor the late Susan Murray, former vice president of its Directories Division, Commonwealth Business Media last year created the Susan C. Murray Memorial Women's Scholarship Program, which is open to daughters and granddaughters of employees working for American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA)-member railroads.

Murray served as the exhibition manager for ASLRRA, helping to grow the association's annual convention from 40 tabletop booths in 1987 to "the premier exhibition dedicated to the short line and regional railroad industry," ASLRRA officials said in a prepared statement

Murray also served as a mentor to many people in the short-line industry, particularly women railroaders, ASLRRA said.

The scholarship program will provide $2,000 per academic year for up to four consecutive years towards a chosen degree. ASLRRA is accepting applications until March 19. The association plans to award the scholarship at its annual convention to be held April 22-24 in St. Louis.
