BRS to relocate headquarters from Illinois to Virginia

Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen recently approved plans to build a new headquarters in Front Royal, Va., to annually save the Mount Prospect, Ill.-based union tens of thousands of dollars in property taxes and travel expenses to Washington D.C.

"The move makes sense; [a] 30-year projection indicates that the savings are in the millions," said BRS Grand Board of Trustees Chairman Bill Saar in a prepared statement.

BRS expects to finalize building plans and begin construction by year end; the $1.9 million project is expected to be completed in 18 to 24 months.

In the meantime, the union plans to maintain a downtown Washington office: "We still need to keep our constant presence on Capitol Hill," said BRS International President W. Dan Pickett.

International Vice President–NRAB Charlie McGraw would remain in the Chicago area after the new headquarters is built because he meets regularly with National Railroad Adjustment Board in the Windy City.
