BNSF delivers diversity message at Hispanic business association meeting

To improve diversity and recruiting efforts, Burlington Northern Santa Fe and its Hispanic Leadership Council (HLC) recently hosted a meeting with National Association of Hispanic MBAs' (NSHMBA) Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter.

BNSF and HLC officials presented a historical chronology of Hispanics' role in building the railroad and discussed the Class I's diversity program.

The railroad is trying to develop a relationship with NSHMBA — which represents 6,000 MBAs nationwide — to help identify cultural influences internally and in BNSF's recruiting efforts, according to a prepared statement.

"BNSF has a truly positive story to tell about our diversity efforts and HLC is playing an important role in helping us build that awareness in the community," said Gloria Zamora, BNSF vice president of human resources and medical.

Formed in 1988, NSHMBA seeks to prepare Hispanics for leadership positions through graduate management-education programs and professional development.
