Kelso Technologies set to market 75-pound pressure-relief valve to railroads

Kelso Technologies Inc. recently ordered its first commercially produced batch of JS75 SRV 75-pound pressure-relief valves from manufacturer Willamoy Products Corp., and plans to begin marketing the 115 units to railroads.

In February, Association of American Railroads approved the relief valve for use on North American tank cars carrying non-hazardous commodities.

The low-profile, external valve is designed to avoid product contamination, and vent vapor/gases and liquids simultaneously to prevent back pressure. The small, lightweight valve also offers an unobstructed opening and flow aperture, and can be retrofitted to existing pressure-relief systems.

After spending nine years developing the valve, Kelso Technologies began a service trial in November 2001 involving 30 Union Tank Car Co.-built tank cars leased by Terra Industries Inc. The test concluded in late 2002.
