UP to bypass IC interchange by using utility's Joliet track

advertisement

Midwest Generation L.L.C. recently agreed to grant Union Pacific Railroad trackage rights to the utility's 4,007-foot line extending from a Joliet, Ill., power plant to a nearby UP line.

The trackage rights would enable UP to deliver coal to Midwest's plant without interchanging traffic with Illinois Central Railroad Co.

Midwest Generation recently filed a trackage-rights exemption with Surface Transportation Board, which must approve the transaction to enable the utility and Class I to finalize their agreement.
