In conjunction with the Society of Automotive Engineers
(SAE), the National Transportation Safety Board plans to host a symposium on vehicle recorders June 4-5 in Arlington, Va.

Manufacturers, operators, safety and regulatory officials, and
other industry and government specialists will share current technical information on vehicle recorders for all transportation modes.

"Vehicle recorders are critical tools for providing information in an accident investigation," said NTSB Chairman Ellen Engleman in a prepared statement.

Symposium topics include accident-recorder and video/imaging technology; survivability/crashworthiness requirements; data compilation and privacy issues; and how to use data in commercial operations to prevent accidents and improve efficiency.

The event also will include four mode-specific workshops, including presentations on rail event-recorder maintenance programs and practices.

For more information, visit NTSB's and SAE's Web sites at www.ntsb.gov and www.sae.org/recorder, respectively.
