International rail unions peg Paris for e-business forum

International Union of Railways (UIC) and Association of European Railway Industries (UNIFE) plan to hold the 6th UIC Internet Club Forum Nov. 28-29 in Paris.

Part of the forum will address c-commerce (collaborative commerce), which is becoming more prevalent in the rail industry as railroads, suppliers and service providers try to coordinate their e-business development efforts with trading partners.

UIC and UNIFE plan to present a case study exploring the evolution of e-business in the railroad industry and development of c-commerce.

Railways, suppliers and service providers also would be able to share their experiences in developing and implementing applications that use the Internet as a business tool for improving customer service.

The forum will offer sessions covering such topics as railway information systems interoperability, security, standards and best practices; workshops for passenger rails, freight roads, infrastructure and procurement; and a supplier exhibition.
