Union Pacific Corp. Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Dick Davidson will deliver a keynote address at the Fifth Annual RailtecMéxico 2003 Conference & Exhibition.



To be held Jan. 20-21 at Guadalajara Exposition Center in Guadalajara, Mexico, the event comprises Association of American Railroads' (AAR) Mexico Mechanical Seminar, Asociación Mexicana de Ingeniería Ferroviaria's (AMINFE) first public meeting, an Asociación Mexican de la Industria Ferroviaria A.C. (AMIF) conference and Asociación Internacional Ferroviaria's (AIF) RailtecMéxico Expo, a trade show featuring dozens of exhibitors. The event is co-sponsored by CANAC Inc. and Progressive Railroading.



UP's Davidson is scheduled to speak at a Jan. 21 luncheon.



The only major trade show targeted at the Mexican railroad and rail-transit market, RailtecMéxico 2003 will include purchasing briefings and panel discussions featuring key freight- and passenger-rail decision-makers. And, just as it was last year, RailtecMéxico will be home to the AAR Mexico Mechanical Seminar. This year's mechanical seminar comprises eight courses:



• "Causes, Analysis and Prevention of Empty Tank Car Derailments";

• "Mechanical Requirements for Tank Cars";

• "Field Manual Update - Changes and Modifications";

• "Wheel Rule Changes - Current Situation and Billing Procedures";

• "Brake Systems, Initial Terminal Class I Air Brake Test, EOT Devices";

• "Truck Components, Repair Procedures";

• "Inspection Procedures/Inspection Card"; and

• "Technical Developments on Dynamic Defect Detection - Truck, Wheel Impact, Wheel Profile, Bearing Noise and Hot-Box Detectors."



Meanwhile, AMINFE members will make their first RailtecMéxico appearance. AMINFE comprises infrastructure officials from each of Mexico's privatized railroads. AMINFE session topics include:



• "AMINFE: Introduction and Goals";

• "Technical and Cultural Impact of the Mexican Railroad Privatization in Truck Maintenance and Structures";

• "The Impact of Larger Trains and Heavier Cars on Mexican Railroad Infrastructure";

• "Ventilation System for Ferrosur's 'El Mexicano' Tunnel";

• "Portec Rail Products Presentation" and

• "Introduction of the Istmo of Tehuantepec Railroad."



Also new to RailtecMéxico this year is AMIF, which will conduct two sessions: "Homologation of Normative and Quality Standards Criteria of the Rail Industry" and "Fleet Control Systemization for Rail Cars via The Internet." And on Jan. 21, the League of Railway Industry Women Latinoamerica, a unit of the U.S.-based League of Railway Industry Women, will host its annual luncheon.
