Burlington Northern Santa Fe recently hosted a railroad security briefing and inspection in Fort Worth, Texas.

The briefing was attended by senior Class I officers, Association of American Railroads and American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) officials, Federal Railroad Administrator Allan Rutter and federal security personnel, including Tom Carey, chief of domestic terrorism for the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Thomas Falvey, associate director for national security for U.S. Department of Transportation; Major General Russ Honore, commander, state of force headquarters for the Office of Homeland Security; and Rear Admiral Stephen Rochon, director of intelligence and security for USDOT.

Rail industry officials briefed them on security initiatives aimed at protecting civilians, railroad personnel, critical infrastructure, communities and equipment, according to ASLRRA's recent bi-weekly newsletter.

No other industry has so successfully established a security network and procedures, said Vice Admiral John Shkor, chief operating officer for Transportation Security Administration.
