ASLRRA forming committee to provide small roads more focused technology review

American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) is forming a committee that will explore ways to develop and use technology applications that would benefit regionals and short lines, according to ASLRRA's bi-weekly newsletter released Jan. 20.

Although Class Is regularly review and document new technology applications, and then share their findings with ASLRRA through Association of American Railroads' Safety, Operations and Maintenance Committee, ASLRRA President Richard Timmons believes many of these technologies need a more focused technical review for smaller railroad applications.

The committee will focus on such areas as laminated ties, track materials, alternative lubricants, locomotive remote-control devices, fuel conservation/emissions reduction, fatigue management and expanded Web-based training.

The committee will comprise ASLRRA members with railroad experience in engineering, operations, maintenance, communications and signals, and information systems.
