Following in the footsteps of Norfolk Southern Railway's MODALGISTICS and Canadian Pacific Railway's Tronicus Inc. transportation-management arms, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Aug. 13 formed BNSF Logistics L.L.C. after recently acquiring certain assets from Boston-based third-party logistics and technology firm Clicklogistics Inc.
Using the assets to form its management and customer base, BNSF Logistics (to be located in Springdale, Ark.) plans to offer a suite of logistics products and services, including network analysis, design and optimization, and a variety of execution services, including multi-modal transportation management.
"The formation of BNSF Logistics is further example of our commitment to reach deeper into our customers' supply chains," said Matthew Rose, BNSF chairman, president and chief executive officer, in a prepared statement.
The railroad named former Clicklogistics Chief Operating Officer Eric Wolfe vice president of BNSF Logistics to head the unit.
Wolfe, who has nearly 15 years' experience in transportation and logistics, began his career in 1988 with J.B. Hunt Transport Services, later serving as vice president of operations for J.B. Hunt Logistics Inc. (now part of Transplace). He also served Cardinal Logistics Inc. as senior vice president-logistics.
