On Feb. 10, Alaska Railroad Corp. (ARRC) plans to begin rehabilitating a bridge over Campbell Creek in Anchorage — the final phase of the railroad's $11.8 million South Anchorage Double Track (SADT) project.


ARRC plans to spend $4.8 million to install double track and signals on the bridge. The railroad already has built five miles of mainline between a 120th Avenue crossing and Minnesota Drive overpass, and constructed or renovated three bridges to accommodate double track.


ARRC plans to complete the Campbell Creek bridge in late March or April.
The SADT project will relieve congestion along one of the ARRC's busiest corridors, enabling the railroad to more safely and efficiently move freight and passengers in south Anchorage, according to a prepared statement.


Federal Transit Administration and Federal Railroad Administration provided part of the project's funds.
