Canadian small-road association welcomes anonymous members

Association of Regional Railways of Canada (ARRC) Sept. 10 established a new confidential membership category to enable interested regional, short-line and commuter railroads to join the association anonymously.

ARRC created the category for railroads that might be concerned about how their relationship with Canada's two Class Is would be affected if they were to become association members.

"ARRC members, whether open or private, have the ability to influence the issues that are critical to short lines and regionals through an association that is exclusively dedicated to their concerns," said ARRC President Bob Ballantyne in a prepared statement.

ARRC was formed in September 2001 by BC Rail Ltd., Hudson Bay Railway, The Carlton Trail Railway and Ferroequus Railway Co. Ltd. to promote and provide an industry voice for Canadian regionals' and short lines' interests, including transportation policy, infrastructure improvements, safety, security and the environment.
