The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will host public meetings next month to solicit input on its draft of a new state freight plan scheduled to be released today.The plan calls for an integrated and multimodal freight network across Wisconsin, according to a WisDOT press release."Current demand for freight services is increasing, and multimodal supply chains are becoming more and more interdependent," says Aileen Switzer, administrator of the department's Division of Transportation Investment Management. "An efficient freight system helps Wisconsin improve its business climate, create jobs, open new markets and grow the state's economic base."The meetings will be held Oct. 5 in Eau Claire, Oct. 6 in Appleton, Oct. 11 in Wausau, Oct. 18 in Middleton and Oct. 20 in West Allis.Information gathered at the meetings will be used to prepare a final plan, WisDOT officials said.The draft plan will be available for review on the department's website at wisconsinfreight.wi.gov.
