Ticket sales on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) "eTix" platform have surpassed $47 million since the technology launched in August, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced yesterday. The app allows Metro-North Railroad and Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) riders to use their mobile phones to purchase tickets, check schedules and see current service status.More than 280,000 new eTix accounts have been created since August. In addition, of the 205,159 MTA monthly passes sold in November, nearly 20,000 were purchased using the eTix app. "The rapid growth of MTA eTix among monthly and weekly ticket holders suggests extremely strong support for the new app among our core riders," said MTA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Thomas Prendergast. "We look forward to finding ways to get the word out about this convenient, easy to use app to even more of our customers, and further build usage. The eTix app is powered by Masabi's "JustRide" ticketing platform, which has been used by other U.S. transit agencies, including Southern California's Metrolink.
