ARCI: Car orders, deliveries down in Q1

Rail-car orders in the first quarter totaled 4,814 units compared with 4,866 units in the fourth quarter and 6,646 units in first-quarter 2016, according to quarterly statistics released last week by the Railway Supply Institute's American Railway Car Institute Committee (ARCI).

Car deliveries in Q1 declined to 10,042 units from 14,914 units in Q4 2016 and from 16,834 units in first-quarter 2016.

Meanwhile, the rail-car backlog stood at 60,471 units on April 1. That compares with 66,681 units on Dec. 31, 2016; 77,640 units on Oct. 1, 2016; and 89,155 units on July 1, 2016.
