Iowa DOT solicits responses to freight plan amendment

The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking public comments on an amendment to the State Freight Plan through July 16.

The department has been working on changes to align the plan with the federal reauthorization law known as the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act.

Changes under consideration include aligning the plan with the latest national freight goals, identifying critical urban and rural freight corridors, and highlighting the Iowa DOT's plan for using National Highway Freight Program funds, department officials said in a press release.

The state plan was "heavily influenced" by the Iowa's Freight Advisory Council of industry representatives, Iowa's nine metropolitan planning organizations, 18 regional planning affiliations and other interested stakeholders, DOT officials said.
