RailWorks Corp. July 23 named Ab Rees chairman and chief executive officer, and Jim Kimsey president and chief operating officer, contingent on U.S. bankruptcy court approval (RailWorks in March filed to reorganize).

RailWork's Chairman Norm Carlson and CEO John Kennedy plan to retain their positions until Rees and Kimsey are approved by the court; Rees and Kimsey will join RailWorks as consultants in the interim.

Rees most recently served Kansas City Southern as senior vice president of operations. Although he resigned, Rees plans to remain at KCS through July to assist in the transition of his successor, Jerry Heavin.

Since joining KCS in 1995, Rees also served as senior vice president, international operations and board member. He previously spent 31 years serving in various executive positions at Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway, Union Pacific Railroad and Missouri Pacific Railroad.

Kimsey most recently served Western Utilities Services of Exelon Infrastructure Services Inc. as president. He previously served Fishbach & Moore Electric Inc. as president and CEO.

"[Rees and Kimsey] offer tremendous strategic vision and a range of experience that will help us emerge from bankruptcy as one of the leading providers of integrated rail system services and products," said Carlson in a prepared statement.
