Leasing: Chicago-Sunoco to receive 100 tank cars from GE Capital Rail

Chicago-Sunoco recently began taking delivery of 100 leased tank cars from GE Capital Rail Services.

The petroleum and petrochemical products manufacturer plans to use the high-capacity, 28,000-gallon cars to transport aromatic chemicals.

"We want modern equipment that meets the very latest safety requirements," said Bill Thomas, the company’s manager of transportation services, economics and equipment, in a prepared statement. "And these cars also give us the best reliability and largest capacity possible to maximize our freight expense."

GE Capital Rail engineers participated in the cars’ pre-build meetings and managed the build process using statistical Six Sigma methodologies.

Sunoco’s flexible, full-service lease covers taxes and car marking — but not maintenance.

"We like to control the maintenance dollars," Thomas said. "Besides, we think that the cars have good up-front engineering, so we’re depending on good durability."
