On Jan. 9, Norfolk Southern Railway launched Thoroughbred EXTRA, a premium service designed to help newsprint, wood pulp, pulpboard and printing paper shippers manage their supply chains.
The service offers paper shippers and paper-product receivers customized supply-chain solutions, such as shipment tracking, just-in-time delivery, order fulfillment, and inventory and warehouse management.
Customers can obtain a single source or end-to-end view of their inventories and locate shipments anywhere in their supply chain 24/7, as well as streamline and automate billing, freight payment and invoicing.
Thoroughbred EXTRA relies on NS' "scheduled" service, a network of 22 certified distribution facilities and subsidiary MODALGISTICS® ModalView® inventory-management system, the Class I said in a prepared statement.
"Customers have expressed interest in a fully integrated multimodal
solution that meets their order-to-delivery requirements, while at the
same time giving them the comfort of knowing their products are being
actively managed," said MODALGISTICS President David Lawson.
This month, MODALGISTICS is offering paper shippers an incentive to move shipments from any NS-served paper mill to any Thoroughbred EXTRA distribution facility.
