Amtrak, CN reach tentative pacts with unions

SMART Transportation Division (TD) has reached a tentative labor agreement with Amtrak on behalf of the union's members employed by the railroad.

Following negotiation meetings in Cleveland last week, union officials and Amtrak representatives reached tentative agreements for each bargaining group. Each proposed agreement will be submitted for a ratification vote of the affected members, according to a SMART TD press release.

A synopsis of the tentative agreements is available here.

Meanwhile, CN and the Canadian National Railway Police Association (CNRPA) have reached a tentative agreement for a new contract.

If ratified, the agreement would cover CN police officers across Canada. Contract details are being withheld pending ratification, which is expected by Feb. 1, CN officials said in a press release.

The CNRPA represents about 65 officers with the CN police service.
