The state of Ohio recently passed a law that establishes degrees and prosecution procedures for crimes against railroads, according to American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association's bi-monthly newsletter.
First-degree misdemeanors, which can be prosecuted up to a second-degree felony level if the violation causes serious physical harm to any person, include vandalism, criminal trespass on a railroad vehicle and interference with the operation of a train.
The law, which becomes effective in March, also recognizes trespassing on railroad property as a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
