STB by June's end to eliminate CSXT's, NS' Conrail-related operational reports

Surface Transportation Board June 17 granted CSX Transportation's and Norfolk Southern Railway's joint request to eliminate board-required weekly and monthly operational-monitoring reports tied to the Conrail integration.
The railroads no longer will report to STB after filing submissions for the week ending June 28 and month ending June 30.
However, the board still will require weekly reports on the Shared Assets Areas because of "the unique importance of those areas to the overall benefits of the transaction."
STB officials believe CXST's and NS' system-wide operations have continued to improve, including average terminal-dwell hours, average train velocity and cars on line.
The board also might eliminate monitoring requirements in the Buffalo, N.Y., area because concerns about CSXT's and NS' service haven't been raised in more than a year.
STB Chairman Linda Morgan noted that the railroads' weekly operational metrics will continue to be publicly available as part of Class Is' traffic reports to Association of American Railroads and on the roads' Web sites.
