Web-based system to streamline BNSF's service-contract process

Burlington Northern Santa Fe employees soon will stop placing phone calls and filling out forms to procure services. The Class I plans April 22 to launch ContractSource, an online contract-control system designed to streamline the railroad's service-contract process.
Developed by BNSF's eCommerce/contract services team, ContractSource would enable employees to electronically develop contracts for services ranging from janitorial and pest-control work to construction and engineering consultants.
"ContractSource is more efficient and will give employees who are requesting services more information than they previously had," said Leigh Ann Vernon, BNSF general director, eCommerce, and strategic sourcing and supply support, in a statement prepared April 15.
The system is designed to check if a service is within contract compliance or if a contract is about to expire, as well as provide employees an automatic contract-renewal notification and contract updates by email.
The railroad for the past several weeks has been training employees to use ContractSource; BNSF plans to continue training workers throughout the year.
