CSXT plans to spend nearly half a billion dollars to upgrade infrastructure in 14 states

To maintain and upgrade its network, CSX Transportation May 14 announced plans this year to spend more than $480 million in 14 states — ranging from $65 million in Florida to $12 million in Maryland.
The railroad owns and maintains approximately 1,750 track miles in Florida; 1,700 track miles in Georgia; 2,300 track miles in Ohio; 1,300 track miles in South Carolina; 1,070 track miles in Tennessee; 2,000 track miles in Indiana; 1,140 track miles in Pennsylvania; 1,240 track miles in Alabama; 1,140 track miles in North Carolina; 1,050 track miles in Virginia; 1,550 track miles in West Virginia; 1,050 track miles in Illinois; 840 track miles in Michigan; and 570 track miles in Maryland.
CSXT earlier this year budgeted more than $450 million for maintenance-of-way projects, such as replacing or installing 525 miles of continuous-welded rail; installing 2.9 million wood and 75,000 concrete ties; spreading 1.9 million tons of ballast; grinding or surfacing more than 16,000 track miles; and rebuilding about 110 bridges in 23 states and two Canadian provinces.
