Association of American Railroads Jan. 29 named Hubert O’Bannon senior vice president-government affairs.
O’Bannon, who since 1999 has served as vice president-government affairs, will direct AAR’s congressional activities, working with member railroads to develop and coordinate legislative strategies.
"[O’Bannon], having worked with Congress for 28 years, knows Capitol Hill very well," said Edward Hamberger, AAR president and chief executive officer, in a prepared statement. "He has been actively involved in all of the major legislative issues affecting railroads, from the ‘Staggers Rail Act of 1980,’ which partially deregulated railroads to, most recently, the successful effort to reform the railroad retirement system."
O’Bannon in 1988 joined AAR as assistant vice president of legislation. He previously served as director of federal affairs for Conrail, special representative for Penn Central Railroad and legislative assistant with Democratic Study Group.
