Indiana DOT to update state rail plan

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is asking the public and stakeholders to help update the state's rail plan by weighing in on the future of passenger- and freight-rail service.

Last updated in 2017, the plan helps guide the improvement of freight- and passenger-rail systems in rural and urban areas throughout the state, INDOT officials said in a press release.

Federal law requires the plan to be updated every four years.

The procedures will include an online survey, which will be available to the general public in early fall; a committee of rail industry representatives to meet next month, as well as in February and May 2021; and one-on-one interviews to be held starting this month and through April 21 with select Indiana shippers and freight trade organizations.

The process will be conducted via virtual and phone outreach, INDOT officials said.
