The Association of American Railroads recently named CSX Transportation Hazardous Materials Field Services Manager Bill Gleason recipient of the Holden-Proefrock Award to honor his lifetime contributions to haz-mat safety.

During his 27 years with CSXT, Gleason has designed and constructed tank-car modules for haz-mat training centers, chemical corporations and emergency responders, and developed haz-mat training courses.

"He is recognized as an expert in tank-car construction and damage assessment, and is nationally recognized as a railroad emergency response trainer," said Skip Elliott, CSXT assistant vice president of public safety and environment, in a prepared statement.

The award is named after Roy Holden and Art Proefrock, who are considered pioneers in railroad hazardous-materials transportation safety and tank-car design. Gleason is the third CSXT employee to win the award during the past four years.
